The developer version of Metriscope is due for release soon. For more information about the developer version, please contact us. WINDOWS PACKAGE Why can't I connect? There could be a number of reasons why you can't connect to a server. The most common reason is that you are not logging in using a valid administrator account. Check the user accounts on the machine if you are not sure. Another cause for not being able to connect is that Windows is forcing remote connections to have guest access. You will receive an "Access Denied" error if this is the case. To correct this, run regedit.exe, go to the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa" and alter the value for "forceguest" to 0 (zero). Other causes for non-connection could be that the server is not accessable, shutdown or not currently responsive. Why can't I remotely connect to a Windows XP Home machine? The Windows package requires administrator privleges to retrieve its data. Windows XP Home does not allow a user to remotely login as an administrator. Why can't I remotely connect to a Windows XP SP2 machine? A common problem for not being able to connect to a XP SP2 machine is that the Windows firewall is blocking access to WMI. You need to allow remote administration for the firewall. The easiest way to do this is to run the command prompt (on the machine you need access to) and type: netsh.exe firewall set service type=remoteadmin mode=enable scope=subnet profile=domain If you're not on a domain, change the profile to profile=standard. How do I enable disk performance counters? By default, disk performance counters are not enabled on Windows 2000. To enable disk performance counters, open a command prompt and enter: diskperf -y You will need to restart the system for the settings to take effect. Why do I sometimes lose my disk information when a USB memory stick is inserted into or removed from the machine I am monitoring? This problem is caused by a bug in the disk class driver of all Windows 2000 based computers. Currently, there is no public fix from Microsoft. When I connect, I get an 'Invalid namespace' error. How can I fix this? The WMI CIMV2 namespace might be missing on your system. Also, your repository might be corrupted. Try the following: Go to folder %windir%\system32\wbem\ in the command prompt and enter: mofcomp cimwin32.mof mofcomp cimwin32.mfl If you're still receiving the error, try this in the command prompt (in the same folder): net stop winmgmt rmdir /s /q repository rmdir /s /q Logs mkdir Logs net start winmgmt |
